Creativity.... Yes, You CAN Develop It.

Most people believe you're either born creative or you're not. Well, this isn't 100% true. While some people are great at gardening, others might be good taking care of a single houseplant. The houseplant people may not know they are great gardeners. What's my point? Well, you might not think you're creative- but you might well be. You just need to learn how to develop your creativity.

Put 30 minutes aside today to try this exercise;

1. Sit somewhere that is distraction free. Make sure your cell phone is nowhere to be found.
2. Have a lined piece of paper and a pen- no pencils. Self-doubters use pencil.
3. Write down five ideas on how you can reinvent the concept of Starbucks.
4. Don't hesitate when you write down these ideas. Write down the first five concepts that enter your mind.
5. Scrunch the paper up. Toss it in the trash. Walk away.

Ok, you might be thinking this is crazy. It's not. This exercise is designed to get you analyzing business from a more creative perspective. If you do this every day (picking a different business each day) it really will help you within your own life and industry.

Happy reinventing!

Are You Networking?

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.... it can all get very overwhelming at times. But, these social media tools play an essential role in your networking ability- and ability to make a profit in business.

Below are my tips on how to network better!

#1 - Don't collect a business card or make online contact with the "how can I benefit" attitude. People will see right through it. Don't be a user, be a networker. It is an art. Be genuine and you will build a genuine relationship!

#2- Listen. Yes, listen. If you are busy pitching a new friend, you are busy missing out on what that friend needs and how you can help. A pitch is good but you may be selling the wrong service to the right person. So, take time to listen before you offer a solution.

#3- Lastly, follow-up. The handwritten note is dated. I get it. But take the time to link up , social media wise, with your new contact and thank them for following you in advance. If you believe the lead is worth it then send an e-thank you card. Starbucks and other eateries offer this service right from Facebook!

Try these three tips and I promise you an increase in brand recognition and sales!

Until next time....

What is your business marketing mistake?

Marketing mistake... the biggest one most companies make!

Did you know many businesses create their brands based on their products? Did you know this is a huge mistake? It is true!

Businesses shouldn't brand based on product. Instead, businesses should brand based on a customer's emotions. Think about Starbucks. Their coffee is expensive, yet many of us go there a few times a week- if not every morning. Why? Can we don't make our own coffee? Is their coffee really THAT good at $4.00 a cup (around $100 a month)? Or, is their something personal about your visit to Starbucks? Maybe they call your name? Maybe your order is personalized to reflect your taste? Maybe the music your listening to in line is inspiring and comforting...

Hmmm - sounds like Starbucks sells more than just coffee. The company sells an emotional experience that brings you back day in and day out!

When you brand don't ask yourself about the products/services features. Ask how you feel when using the product or receiving the services. If you can connect your products/ services to an emotion then you will have a brand!
